About Manduca muscosa Rothschild & Jordan, 1903
This moth species, Manduca muscosa, has a wingspan ranging from 100 to 126 mm. It closely resembles Manduca sesquiplex, but can be distinguished by several key traits: its forewing is far less elongated, the base color of its body and wings is darker, leaning toward an almost olive shade, and the pale bands on its hindwing are less prominent. In terms of distribution, Manduca muscosa occurs from southern and western Arizona, where it inhabits tropical and subtropical lowlands, premontane forests, and oak woodland. Its range extends further south through Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica.
