Mammillaria compressa DC., commonly known as mother of hundreds, is a species of cactus that belongs to the subfamily Cactoideae. This cactus is native to both northern and southern Mexico, and it is widely cultivated for use as an ornamental plant. It produces bell-shaped flowers that range in color from purplish pink to red, and blooming occurs in winter and early spring. The curved spines of Mammillaria compressa were traditionally used as hooks for fishing.
