About Malva hispanica L.

Malva hispanica, commonly called Spanish mallow, is a flowering plant species that belongs to the family Malvaceae. It is native to the western Mediterranean region. Uniquely among all species in the Malva genus, the flowers of Malva hispanica have a bilobed epicalyx. This structure is derived from an ancestral trimerous epicalyx, and it formed through the loss of the adaxial epicalyx lobe.
