Malus hupehensis (Pamp.) Rehder is a vigorous deciduous tree that reaches 12 metres (39 feet) in both height and spread. In spring, it produces pink buds that open into fragrant white flowers. In autumn, it bears bright red crab-apples that are about the size of cherries. This species is cultivated as an ornamental tree for garden planting, and it has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
