About Malperia tenuis S.Watson

Malperia is a North American plant genus classified in the tribe Eupatorieae of the family Asteraceae. Only one species in this genus is known to science: Malperia tenuis S.Watson. This species has two common names: brown turbans and brownturbans. It is a rare annual plant, native to the Sonoran Desert. In the United States, it grows in Imperial and San Diego Counties, California; in northwestern Mexico, it is found in Sonora, Baja California, and Baja California Sur. It is a small plant that produces white or pinkish, bell-shaped flowers. The genus name Malperia is created as an anagram of the last name of botanist Edward Palmer.
