About Malcolmia maritima (L.) W.T.Aiton
Malcolmia maritima (L.) W.T.Aiton, commonly called Virginia stock, is a popular annual garden plant in the Brassicaceae family. This species is a beautiful annual that produces abundant flowers, and it is considered one of the easiest of all plants to grow. It reaches a height of 6–12 inches (15–30 centimetres), and grows a mass of fragrant, four-petaled cruciform flowers in shades of pink, purple, and white. It is native to Greece and Albania. It may be naturalized in other parts of Mediterranean Europe, where it grows in maritime sandy habitats and waste places. To achieve the best cultivation results for Virginia stock, sow seeds on the soil surface in patches or rows, then thin young seedlings to 6 inches apart. This plant grows best in full to partial sun and well-drained soils.
