About Malaisia scandens (Lour.) Planch.
Malaisia scandens (synonym Trophis scandens), commonly known as burny vine or crow ash, is a species of large woody vine that belongs to the fig plant family. It grows naturally in rainforests across Australia and Malesia, and it is the only species in the genus Malaisia. In Australia, its natural native range extends from Mount Dromedary in coastal southeastern New South Wales, northward through eastern coastal regions to north Queensland and Cape York Peninsula, and continues across coastal northern Australia into the Northern Territory and Western Australia. Botanists have formally recognised and described two subspecies: one subspecies is endemic to Lord Howe Island, which lies offshore from New South Wales, Australia, while the type subspecies is found in mainland Australia and Malesia. The two recognised subspecies are Malaisia scandens subsp. megacarpa (P.S.Green) P.S.Green, restricted to Lord Howe Island, and Malaisia scandens subsp. scandens, found in New South Wales, Queensland, the Northern Territory, and Western Australia.
