About Malacothrix floccifera (DC.) S.F.Blake

Malacothrix floccifera is a flowering plant species in the Asteraceae family, commonly called the woolly desertdandelion. This species is native to many of the northern and central mountain ranges of California, including the Sierra Nevada; its range also extends into Nevada. It grows in habitats including forests, woodlands, and chaparral. It is an annual herb that produces a hairless flowering stem, which reaches a maximum height of around 42 centimeters. Its fleshy oblong leaves are cut into teeth or lobes, and have cottony patches of woolly fibers. Its inflorescence is an arrangement of flower heads lined with hairless phyllaries. Its ray florets can grow up to 1.5 centimeters long, and are most often white, though they may sometimes be yellow.
