About Maireana georgei (Diels) Paul G.Wilson
Maireana georgei, commonly known as slit-wing bluebush, is an upright, open-branched shrub that reaches approximately 80 cm (31 in) in height. The plant is covered in woolly, short, matted hairs. Its leaves are alternately arranged, linear or slightly needle-shaped, 6–15 mm (0.24–0.59 in) long, and succulent. Small, bisexual flowers are borne singly in leaf axils, and are pinkish or satiny brown in color. The fruiting perianth is smooth, 14–20 mm (0.55–0.79 in) in diameter, faintly veined, and shaped like a top. Fruiting occurs between September and October. This species grows on sand, loam, clay, and stony sites across all mainland Australian states and the Northern Territory of Australia.
