About Maianthemum trifolium (L.) Sloboda
Maianthemum trifolium (L.) Sloboda is an erect, herbaceous perennial plant that reaches 10–25 cm (4–10 in) in height. It grows from spreading sympodial rhizomes, with roots only produced at the rhizome nodes. In their first year, new plants grow two foliage leaves with petioles; in the second year, they produce a flowering shoot that bears 2 to 4 sessile leaves. This species is distributed across all Canadian provinces and territories. In the United States, it occurs in a number of northeastern states: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wisconsin. It is also found in St. Pierre and Miquelon, and in Siberia, Asia. Maianthemum trifolium frequently forms dense patches in wet forests, sphagnum bogs, and other wetland areas, and is sometimes classified as aquatic.
