About Maianthemum paniculatum (M.Martens & Galeotti) LaFrankie
Maianthemum paniculatum (M.Martens & Galeotti) LaFrankie typically grows 0.7–1.5 m (2–5 ft) tall from a base of forked rhizomes. Roots are spread evenly along the length of the rhizome. Stems are hairless, upright, leaning or arching, and leafy. Most plants have 10 to 15 leaves set 4–7 cm (2–3 in) apart, though some smaller plants only have 6 to 10 leaves; these smaller plants were previously classified as a separate species. This species has been recorded in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panamá, and the Mexican states of Chiapas, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Oaxaca, Puebla, and Veracruz. It is most often found along roadsides and in forest openings, but it can sometimes persist and grow in shaded areas. It may grow in dense clusters.
