About Macrolepiota zeyheri Heinem.
Macrolepiota zeyheri Heinem. is a mushroom-forming fungal species belonging to the family Agaricaceae. It has two local common names: it is called djilo in the Kilendu dialect, and n'volo mighom in the Kilur dialect. The first specimens studied by Berkeley were collected during an expedition to South Africa, while Heinemann studied specimens collected from across the Democratic Republic of Congo. These Congolese specimens came from locations across the country: Kisantu in the south west, Lake Albert in the north east, Lake Edward and Lake Kivu in the east, and Lubumbashi in the far south. This range of collection sites indicates that Macrolepiota zeyheri has a widespread distribution. A 2020 study documented the presence of Macrolepiota zeyheri in South Africa, but also listed the name Leucoagaricus zeyheri, an apparent taxonomic error. The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) holds observations of this species from the Congo, along with many more observations from across South Africa.
