About Macrochilo litophora Grote, 1873

Macrochilo litophora, commonly known as the angulate fan-foot or brown-lined owlet moth, is a litter moth that belongs to the family Erebidae. This species was first formally described by Augustus Radcliffe Grote in 1873. In the United States, it is distributed from Wisconsin eastward to Massachusetts, and southward to North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, and Texas. The wingspan of this moth is approximately 20 millimeters. In the northern part of its range, this species produces one generation per year. In southern Ohio and Missouri, it produces two generations per year. The larvae of Macrochilo litophora feed on dead grasses, clover, and likely other types of organic matter.
