It is native to eastern Asia, and grows widely across coastal regions of this area, including China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines, and multiple islands in the Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean. This species is classified as common within Japan. Its natural native habitat is located along beaches and in the crevices of maritime rocks. It is a biennial plant that reaches up to 50 centimeters in height. It bears fleshy leaves with a spathulate to obovate shape. In late spring and early summer, it produces white flowers arranged in terminal racemes.
