This insect is a subspecies of Lycorea halia, which also shares the common name tropical milkweed butterfly. It is a nymphalid butterfly that belongs to the Danainae subfamily. It is endemic to the Caribbean island of Hispaniola, which is home to the countries of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Its native habitat is the tropical rainforest.
