About Lycaeides anna (Edwards, 1861)
Plebejus anna, commonly known as Anna's blue, is a species of blue butterfly in the family Lycaenidae. It is found in North America. It was once grouped together with the Northern Blue (Plebejus idas) as a single species, but is now recognized as a distinct species. Anna's blue can be very similar in appearance to the Melissa Blue. Males often have a more bluish-white base color with white outlines along the edges of their wings. Females show slight variation: they typically have brown wings with orange submarginal bands, which are often less developed than the submarginal bands found on Melissa Blue, and the bands may sometimes be completely absent. Females also have whitish outlines on their wings. Anna's blue has one brood per year and normally flies during the summer. Its larval food plants include blueberry, other heaths, and legumes. The MONA (Hodges) number for Plebejus anna is 4374.1.
