About Luzula spicata (L.) DC.
Luzula spicata (L.) DC. is a species of flowering plant in the rush family, commonly called spiked woodrush. It has a circumpolar distribution across the Northern Hemisphere, found in Europe, Asia, and North America. This plant grows in subalpine and alpine climates. In colder regions like tundra, it grows at low elevations; farther south, it is mainly restricted to high mountains. It is a perennial herb that forms grasslike clumps of several upright reddish stems, reaching a maximum height of around 33 centimeters. The stem is thick, with its base buried several centimeters in the soil, where it connects to the roots. Its inflorescence is a cluster of multiple groups of brown flowers that end in bristle tips. The surrounding bracts and the sheaths that wrap around leaf bases are lined with hairs.
