About Luzula parviflora (Ehrh.) Desv.
Luzula parviflora (Ehrh.) Desv. is a perennial herb that forms grasslike clumps. It produces several upright stems that reach a maximum height of half a meter, surrounded by many grasslike leaves. Its inflorescence is an open arrangement of many clusters of brown flowers growing on long branches. This species has a circumboreal distribution, and is native across the Northern Hemisphere, including northern Scandinavia, Asia, and North America. It grows in moist locations, most often on gravelly soils. In colder regions like tundra, it occurs at low elevations; further south, it is mainly restricted to high mountains. It is able to grow in highly disturbed habitats, demonstrated by its ability to survive volcanic eruption and thrive in the destroyed ecosystem on the most barren slopes of Mount St. Helens.
