About Luzula nivea (Nathh.) DC.

The scientific name of this species is Luzula nivea (Nathh.) DC. The plant is 45 to 85 centimetres (18 to 33 inches) tall overall. Its basal leaves measure 20 to 30 centimetres (7.9 to 11.8 inches) long, and 3 to 4 millimetres (0.12 to 0.16 inches) wide. The lower bract of Luzula nivea is 10 to 12 centimetres (3.9 to 4.7 inches) long. The species' anthers are 1.8 to 2.2 millimetres (0.071 to 0.087 inches) long and brownish in color. Its filaments measure 1.5 to 1.9 millimetres (0.059 to 0.075 inches) long, and its style is 2.2 to 2.6 millimetres (0.087 to 0.102 inches) long. Its stigmas are 1.0 to 1.3 millimetres (0.039 to 0.051 inches) long.

Luzula nivea is cultivated as an ornamental grass for planting in gardens. In some climates, it can escape cultivation from gardens and become an invasive species.
