This species, Lupinus arizonicus (S.Watson) S.Watson, is an annual plant that reaches a height of 10 to 50 centimeters (3.9 to 19.7 inches). Its leaves are palmately compound, made up of 6 to 10 leaflets. Each individual leaflet measures 1 to 4 centimeters (0.39 to 1.57 inches) long and 5 to 10 millimeters (0.20 to 0.39 inches) wide, and grows from a petiole that is 2.5 to 7 centimeters (0.98 to 2.76 inches) long. The plant's flowers range in color from magenta to dark pink, are 7 to 10 millimeters long, and are arranged in a tall spike that holds 20 to 50 or more individual flowers. Lupinus arizonicus acts as a host plant for the moth species Helicoverpa zea.
