Lupinus alopecuroides Desr. is a lupine species that is native to the mountain peaks of Colombia and Ecuador. It grows at altitudes ranging from 2700 to 4500 meters. This species is only found growing on 10 isolated mountains, with 3 of these mountains located in Colombia and 7 located in Ecuador. It has been used as animal feed. Plants within the same population of this species have low genetic variation, but there is high genetic diversity between the 10 separate populations.
