About Luperina testacea (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775
This species, Luperina testacea (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775, has a wingspan of 30–35 mm, and forewings measure 14–18 mm in length. The forewings range from light to dark fuscous, and often carry a faint ochreous or brownish tinge. The veins are darker than the surrounding wing tissue. The inner and outer lines on the forewing are double, filled with pale color, and vary in intensity. The claviform stigma matches the ground color of the wing and is outlined with a black line; the orbicular and reniform stigmas are paler than the ground and have darker centers. The submarginal line is pale and obscure, often only visible due to the dark terminal area that lies beyond it. The hindwing is whitish, with dark veins and a black marginal line. Several named aberrations occur among individuals that lack any ochreous or rufous tinge. ab. obsoleta Tutt is pale grey with no distinct dark markings. ab. cinerea Tutt has a darker grey that is closer to fuscous. ab. nigrescens Tutt has a blackish ground color with varying intensity, and the inner and outer lines are sometimes connected by a black streak. In ab. unca Haw., the connecting streak is thin, and the two lines remain clearly separated. ab. x-notata Haw. has a thick connecting streak, with the two lines lying closely together.
