About Luehea divaricata Mart.

Luehea divaricata Mart. is a tree species native to the cerrado region of Brazil, found most notably in the states of Bahia and Rio Grande do Sul. It has multiple local common names: "açoita-cavalo", "açoita-cavalo miúdo", "ibatingui", "ivatingui", "pau-de-canga", and "caiboti". In traditional Brazilian medicine, Luehea divaricata is considered a medicinal plant. Different parts of the plant are used for specific purposes: stems are used to reduce inflammation, leaves are used as a diuretic, and a decoction made from the bark is used to treat arthritis. Its wood can also be made into whips.
