About Ludwigia hexapetala (Hook. & Arn.) Zardini, H.Y.Gu & P.H.Raven

Ludwigia hexapetala, commonly called water primrose, is a herbaceous perennial plant belonging to the Onagraceae family. It is native to Central and South America, also referred to as Latin America. Its natural habitat includes lake and pond margins, ditches, stream margins, and swammier low-intensity or stagnant water areas. Its stems can be either immersed in water or fully emergent above the water surface. This species grows in mats that reach up to three feet tall. As it grows, it crowds out or shades out native plant species. It is classified as a noxious invader of aquatic ecosystems in North America, specifically invasive across the Southeast United States, Midwest United States, Pacific Coast, and parts of New England.
