About Ludwigia adscendens (L.) H.Hara
Ludwigia adscendens, commonly called water primrose, is a species of flowering plant belonging to the evening primrose family. Its native geographic origin is unclear. While it may have originated in South America, it is now a common weed growing in Asian rice paddies, and can also be found in Australia and Africa. This species is a perennial floating herb that develops white spongy buoyant structures. It is able to float on the surface of water, as well as creep across wetland surfaces. Its leaves are simple, with elliptic leaf blades that measure 0.4 to 7 centimeters long and 0.7 to 3 centimeters wide. The leaf petioles are short, ranging from 0.5 to 1.0 centimeters in length. Cream-colored flowers grow singly from the leaf axils. Each individual flower has 5 sepals, 5 petals, and 10 stamens.
