About Ludisia discolor (Ker Gawl.) Blume

Ludisia discolor (Ker Gawl.) Blume is a terrestrial orchid species that grows on the forest floor in its natural habitat. This orchid is most recognized for its distinctive foliage: its leaves are typically velvety deep maroon, marked with red veins that run parallel to the leaf center. Its flowers are white, and feature twisting yellow columns. While individual flowers are small, they grow in clusters held on upright stalks. When grown in cultivation, the flowers of this species last for one month or longer. For successful cultivation, Ludisia discolor requires high humidity, warm temperatures, and low to medium light. It is also able to tolerate extremely low light conditions.
