About Luculia gratissima (Wall.) Sweet

Luculia gratissima (Wall.) Sweet is a species of flowering plant in the Rubiaceae family. It is an ornamental plant with a native range extending from the central Himalayas to northern Indo-China. Its Latin specific epithet "gratissima" translates to "most pleasing" or "most agreeable". This plant grows as a large shrub or a small tree, reaching up to 4 meters (13 feet) tall and 1.5 meters (4.9 feet) broad. It has pointed, ribbed leaves, and produces clusters of fragrant pale pink flowers in autumn and winter. Since it cannot survive temperatures below 5 °C (41 °F), it must be grown under glass in temperate regions. It can be moved outside to a sheltered, sunny spot during the summer months. This plant has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
