About Lotus alpinus (Ser.) Schleich. ex Ramond

Lotus alpinus (Ser.) Schleich. ex Ramond is a perennial herbaceous plant. Mature individuals reach a height of 2–10 cm (0.79–3.94 in), and typically grow horizontally sprawling, level with surrounding grassland or rocky surfaces. The base of its stem is woody. Its flowers have the characteristic shape of pea flowers, and may be yellow, orange, or reddish in color. This species blooms from May to August. It is native to mountain regions of southern Europe, including Austria, Germany, Switzerland, former Yugoslavia, Italy, France, and Spain, and occurs most commonly in the Alps and the Pyrenees. It can be found growing in subalpine or alpine pastures and rocky areas, at elevations between 1,700–2,700 m (5,600–8,900 ft) above sea level.
