About Lomographa vestaliata (Guenée)

This species, commonly called the white spring moth, has a scientific name of Lomographa vestaliata (Guenée). Adults have a wingspan ranging from 15 to 23 mm. They rest with their wings open, which exposes both their forewings and hindwings. The moth's head, body, and all four wings are solid white with no markings, and have a shiny or translucent appearance. The outer margins of all four wings are fringed. This moth is found in North America. Its recorded distribution extends from Newfoundland west to southeastern British Columbia, and south to Florida, Texas, and Mexico. It prefers dry climates, and its typical habitat includes xeric shrubby edges and woodlands. Recorded host plants for its larvae include species from the genera Prunus, Cestrum, Crataegus, Sorbus, Malus, Physocarpus, and Viburnum.
