Lomatium papilioniferum J.A.Alexander & Whaley is a malodorous, hairless perennial plant. It grows from a long, thick taproot, and has a branching woody base that produces multiple stems between 15 and 50 cm (6 to 20 inches) tall. Its leaves grow near the base of the stems, and are highly divided into a great many small leaflets. The plant produces a compound umbel inflorescence that holds small, bright yellow flowers.
