About Lomatium observatorium Constance & B.Ertter
Lomatium observatorium is a grayish perennial herb with lightly hairy foliage that grows from a 15-centimeter long taproot. Its leaves grow at slightly different heights, with oblong or very narrowly elliptic leaflets. Leaf blades reach up to 12 centimeters in length, and are divided into many further subdivided lobes. The smallest segments of the blades are linear or lance-shaped and pointed, and the blades attach to petioles a few centimeters long. The inflorescence is an umbel consisting of one or more clusters of tiny flowers, borne on a peduncle that can be very short or elongated, reaching up to 20 centimeters tall. A plant can produce a maximum of 6 peduncles, with 1 peduncle per stem. The petals are characteristically vibrant yellow, and the adaxial surface of the mericarps is typically ashy white.
