About Logania marmorata Moore, 1884
Logania marmorata, commonly known as the pale mottle, is a species of butterfly in the family Lycaenidae. It was first described by Frederic Moore in 1884, and is found in the Indomalayan realm. It is an insignificant but widely distributed species; its range extends from the Philippines in the north, and from Tenasserim across the whole of Macromalayana. The entire basal portion of the forewing is whitish or bluish-grey, depending on the individual’s habitat, and the apical border is broad black. In the name-type and a North Bornean race, the hindwing is also brightened with bluish-grey; other insular forms of L. marmorata have black hindwings. The form marmorata Moore (141 f) is the lightest branch of the full species. The forewing of the male is almost white, with a delicate violet tint. A female from Singapore examined by Fruhstorfer has a dull chalk-colored forewing. The hindwing has a pale bluish-grey basal zone that also covers the middle zone. The under surface is grey with diffuse whitish spots; submarginal clusters of blackish scales and indistinct brown maculae on the hindwings are predominantly speckled with silvery grey.
