About Llavea cordifolia Lag.

Llavea is a monotypic genus of fern belonging to the family Pteridaceae. The only species in this genus is Llavea cordifolia Lag. This species is frequently cultivated as an ornamental foliage plant. The genus was named to honor Pablo de La Llave, a Mexican naturalist. Recent cladistic studies have found that this genus forms a natural group alongside Cryptogramma and Coniogramme. This group is sister to all other pteridoid ferns, and has been formally published as Cryptogrammoideae, one of the five subfamilies of Pteridaceae.
