About Livistona chinensis (Jacq.) R.Br. ex Mart.
Vegetative characteristics: Mature Livistona chinensis can reach heights between 9 and 15 m (30 to 50 ft), with a spread of up to 4 m (12 ft). This species produces fan-shaped leaves. Cultivation: Livistona chinensis is grown as an ornamental tree for gardens and conservatories. It is hardy in USDA plant hardiness zones 9 through 11, and can tolerate temperatures as low as approximately 22 °F (−6 °C). It is commonly planted as a landscape palm in hot, wet tropical and subtropical climates, including regions of eastern Australia, Southeast Asia, and the southeastern United States. In certain areas, this species can become a weed, or act as an invasive species in some ecosystems; this has been observed in Bermuda, Hawaii, Florida wetlands, and some Caribbean Islands.
