About Littorella uniflora (L.) Asch.
Littorella uniflora (L.) Asch., commonly known as American shoreweed or shoreweed, is an aquatic flowering plant species. It is native to the Azores, Morocco, Iceland, the Faroes, and most of Europe excluding the dry southeast region of the continent. It primarily grows fully submerged in nutrient-poor freshwater habitats. When submerged, it takes in most of its carbon dioxide through its roots, and uses a combination of crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) and C3 carbon fixation for photosynthesis. If water levels drop and expose its roots, it stops using CAM photosynthesis.
