About Lithophane semibrunnea Haworth, 1809
Lithophane semibrunnea Haworth, 1809 has a wingspan of 40–44 mm. Its forewings are dull wood brown, with the inner-marginal half suffused with black brown that is darkest along the inner margin and in the outer half of the submedian interspace. The veins are marked with black scales, and the lines on the forewing are indistinct. The outer line is marked by pairs of black dots on the veins and a white crescent on the submedian fold, while the submarginal line is marked by a slighter white crescent. Hindwings are greyish brown, and are paler in males, with a darker terminal area. Newly emerged moths are characterized by a black-brown dorsal line that often has blue shimmering, alongside black-brown lines on the shoulders. The dorsal crests on the abdomen are also black-blue. Compared to other species in the genus, such as Lithophane socia, the anterior edge of this moth's forewing is straight.
