About Lithophane ornitopus Hufnagel, 1766

Technical description and variation: This species has a wingspan of 32–38 mm. Its forewings are grey-white, with a forked black streak extending from the base below the cell. The lines are indistinct, pale with dotted edges. The stigmata are grey with partial black outlines and paler rings; the lower lobe of the reniform stigma has an orange tinge. The claviform stigma is sometimes connected to the outer line by a black streak, and a dark spot often appears between the stigmata. The submarginal line is wavy, white, and preceded by dark markings. The hindwing is grey. Whiter-colored forms of this species are classified as the aberration pallida Spul.
