About Lithophane leautieri Boisduval, 1829
Technical description and variation: The wingspan of Lithophane leautieri is 39–44 mm. The forewing is pale grey, dusted with olive grey. The lines are strongly dentate but heavily obscured, marked by short oblique costal streaks. The upper stigmata are poorly defined, but are united at their base by a long black line. The lower half of the reniform stigma contains fulvous colouring. The claviform stigma is elongated, black-edged, and connected to the outer line by a short black streak. A distinct black streak runs from the base along the submedian fold. The submarginal line is only indicated by black dentate marks that precede it; the two of these marks located on the folds are the longest. The fringe is mottled with dark and light grey. The hindwing is pale brownish grey, growing darker towards the termen. The aberration sabinae Geyer is rather smaller, blue-grey in colour, and has more distinct markings, especially the median shade and submarginal teeth. It has almost no fulvous colouring in the reniform stigma, and the two black lines on the submedian fold are barely visible.
