About Lipararchis tranquillalis (Lederer, 1863)
Bepea is a moth genus placed in the subfamily Spilomelinae of the family Crambidae. The name Bepea is a replacement name (nomen novum) that was proposed by Koçak & Kemal in 2007. This new name was required because the prior genus name Notesia Yamanaka, 1992 was a junior homonym of Notesia Casey, 1922, a genus of weevils. Notesia Yamanaka, 1992 was itself also a replacement name: the genus’s original name, Notaspis Warren, 1892, was a junior homonym of the mite genus Notaspis Hermann, 1804. The genus currently contains two species. Its type species is Bepea tranquillalis, which was originally described by Julius Lederer in 1863 (as Lipararchis tranquillalis) and is found in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Taiwan. The second species, Bepea pyraustalis, was transferred to the Bepea genus by Koçak & Kemal in 2007. It was first described by Embrik Strand in 1918, originally placed in the genus Calamochrous from specimens collected in Kankau and Kosempo, Taiwan.
