About Linum narbonense L.

Linum narbonense, commonly known as perennial flax or blue flax, is a flowering plant belonging to the family Linaceae. It is native to Europe and resembles Linum perenne in appearance. This species grows between 1 and 2.5 feet tall and reaches around 1 foot wide. Its small, narrow grayish-green leaves are arranged in whorls along the stem. The stem ends in a cyme that holds about ten clear blue five-petaled flowers, each 2โ€“2.5 cm in diameter. Teardrop-shaped buds form on the plant in early summer, and mature seed heads are small beige balls. Linum narbonense is cultivated in gardens. To grow it from seed, you can start seeds indoors 6โ€“8 weeks before the last frost, or sow them outdoors in early spring once the soil can be worked. Seeds will germinate within 14 to 30 days.
