About Linum flavum L.

Linum flavum, commonly called golden flax or yellow flax, is a flowering plant species in the Linaceae family. It is native to central and southern Europe. This is an erect, woody perennial that grows to 30 cm (12 inches) tall and 20 cm (8 inches) wide. It has dark green, semi-evergreen leaves, and produces terminal clusters of bright yellow, five-petalled flowers in spring. The species epithet flavum in its scientific name is Latin for "pure yellow". When grown in cultivation, this plant needs sharply drained soil and a sunny location. It is well-suited for planting in rock gardens or alpine gardens. Its cultivar 'Gemmell's Hybrid' has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
