About Lintneria istar Rothschild & Jordan, 1903

Lintneria istar, commonly called the Istar sphinx moth, is a moth species that belongs to the family Sphingidae. This species was first formally described by Walter Rothschild and Karl Jordan in 1903. It inhabits mountains and pine-oak woodlands, with a range extending from southern Arizona east to southern Texas, and continuing south through Mexico into Guatemala. Adult moths are active in flight from July through September each year. The larvae of this species feed on plants belonging to the Salvia genus.
