About Linanthus harknessii (Curran) Greene

This species, known by the scientific name Linanthus harknessii (Curran) Greene, is also referred to as Leptosiphon harknessii. It is a small annual herb with a thin, threadlike stem that reaches no longer than around 15 centimeters. Its leaves are widely spaced, and each leaf is split into very narrow linear lobes that grow up to 1.5 centimeters long. At the tip of each stem branch, the inflorescence holds a single tiny flower, which is white or faintly pale blue, and stays rolled into a tube for most of its life. Its blooming season runs from June to August. This plant is native to western North America, ranging from British Columbia south through California, and east to Utah and Idaho. It grows in open locations across multiple types of coniferous forest habitats, at elevations between 1,000 and 3,200 metres (3,300 to 10,500 ft).
