About Linanthus demissus (A.Gray) Greene
Linanthus demissus (A.Gray) Greene is an annual plant with decumbent (creeping) growth, reaching 2–10 cm in height and covered in downy stems. Its leaves are opposite, 6–10 mm long and 1–2 mm broad, ending in an acuminate apex. The plant produces small, fragrant white flowers only a few millimeters across; each flower's petals twist in a shape similar to a windmill. A key feature that distinguishes this species is a pair of small purple lines or wedges located at the base of each corolla lobe. When not in flower, Linanthus demissus is inconspicuous and tends to blend in with gravel and rock pebbles. It grows on limestone desert pavements and in sandy washes, and occurs in large populations around Death Valley National Park and the Mojave National Preserve south of Interstate 15.
