About Lilium michiganense Farw.
Lilium michiganense Farw. is a species of true lily that is commonly called the Michigan lily. This bulbous herbaceous perennial wildflower grows in prairie habitats across the Great Lakes and Upper Mississippi Valley regions of the United States and Canada. Its range extends from South Dakota through Ontario to New York, and reaches south as far as Georgia and Oklahoma. It reaches up to 5 ft (1.5 m) tall and 2 ft (0.61 m) broad. It produces showy orange flowers with dark brown spots and acutely recurved petals during the summer. Leaf arrangement on this plant is typically whorled, but leaves may grow alternately just below the inflorescence and at the very base of the stem. Michigan lily is widely cultivated as an ornamental plant. It is often confused with two other lilies: the Turk's cap lily (Lilium superbum) and the naturalized Asian tiger lily (Lilium lancifolium).
