Lilium kelleyanum Lemmon is a perennial herb that can grow over two meters tall. It grows from a scaly, elongated bulb that reaches up to around 8 centimeters (3.1 inches) in length. Its oval leaves grow in multiple whorls around the stem; each leaf can be up to 15 centimeters (5.9 inches) long, and has a drooping tip. The inflorescence can hold up to 25 large, nodding lily flowers. Each flower is bell-shaped, with 6 strongly recurved yellow to orange tepals that reach up to 6 centimeters (2.4 inches) long. It has 6 stamens with large red anthers, and a pistil that may be over 3 centimeters (1.2 inches) long. This species' flowers are pollinated by swallowtail butterflies.
