About Lilioceris merdigera (Linnaeus, 1758)

Lilioceris merdigera (Linnaeus, 1758) is a shining leaf beetle that can reach a length of 6 to 8 millimeters. Its head, pronotum, elytra, femora, and tibiae are bright red, and the elytra bear several rows of dots. It can be easily distinguished from the similar species Lilioceris lilii, which has black legs and head instead of red. This species is also similar to Lilioceris schneideri. This species can be found in most of Europe, especially in the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Russia, and Slovakia. It also occurs in the eastern Palearctic realm, including China, Japan, and Taiwan, and has been introduced to Brazil and Mexico. These shining leaf beetles inhabit forest edges, fields, and gardens.
