Adult carrot beetles measure 13โ€“17 mm (0.5โ€“0.7 in) in length, and range in color from dark reddish-brown to black. Larvae of this species are white with a dark-colored head. This beetle feeds on roots, grasses, and decaying vegetation found in soil, and it is classified as a pest that affects sunflowers and other agricultural crops.
