About Ligyrus gibbosus (Degeer, 1774)
Ligyrus gibbosus, commonly known as the carrot beetle, is a species of rhinoceros beetle belonging to the family Scarabaeidae. Adult carrot beetles measure 13โ17 mm (0.5โ0.7 in) in length, and range in color from dark reddish-brown to black. Larvae of this species are white with a dark-colored head. This beetle feeds on roots, grasses, and decaying vegetation found in soil, and it is classified as a pest that affects sunflowers and other agricultural crops.
