About Ligurra latidens (Doleschall, 1859)
Doleschall's original 1859 description of Ligurra latidens noted this species has a generally uniform brown coloration, with a gray cephalothorax that is longer than it is wide. Its abdomen is rounded and slightly longer than its cephalothorax. This species has the typical morphology of jumping spiders: it has four impressed points on its dorsal surface, and relatively short, slender legs. Thorell's detailed description of male individuals notes the male cephalothorax has a rusty-brown to blackish base color, with distinct white marginal lines and golden-gray scales. Like all salticids, this species follows the typical salticid eye arrangement, with posterior eyes noticeably larger than anterior lateral eyes. This species exhibits sexual dimorphism in body size: males generally reach 4 to 4.5 mm in total body length, while females are slightly larger, measuring 6 to 6.5 mm. Ligurra latidens has been recorded in the Malay Archipelago, including the island of Java, with a distribution that spans the region from Malaysia to Indonesia.
