About Libellula semifasciata Burmeister, 1839

Libellula semifasciata, commonly known as the painted skimmer, is an uncommon skimmer dragonfly native to eastern North America. Its distribution ranges from New Brunswick, Canada, southward to Texas and Florida in the United States. This is a medium-sized dragonfly species, reaching a total length of 43 millimeters, which is 1.7 inches. Every individual wing has amber coloration at both the base and the wing tip, and also bears several brown spots along its surface. The abdomen of this dragonfly has a lateral stripe that is white on its forward (anterior) section and yellow on its rear (posterior) section.
